Public transport plays a vital role in shaping cities, economies, and communities. It connects people to opportunities, businesses to customers, and neighbourhoods to one another. Reliable transport systems not only enhance mobility but also drive sustainability, efficiency, and accessibility in urban environments.
From ancient trade routes to modern high-speed rail and electric buses, transportation has always been at the heart of civilization’s progress. Today, in both developed and developing countries, millions rely on public transport daily for work, shopping, and social activities. Century City is no exception—our goal is to ensure that commuters enjoy a seamless, safe, and efficient travel experience.
Century City’s Public Transport Interchange (PTI)
“At the heart of our transport network is the Century City Public Transport Interchange (PTI), located on Ratanga Road.” says Richard Mandulo, Transport and Projects Manager at Century City Property Owners’ Association (CCPOA).
This modern, well-maintained hub serves as a key connection point for thousands of daily commuters using various public transport modes, including:
- Minibus Taxis
- Golden Arrow Buses
- MyCiTi Buses
To enhance the commuter experience, the PTI features:
✔ Designated lanes for different transport services
✔ A terminus building with public restrooms, waiting areas, a ticket office, and a retail kiosk
✔ Regular cleaning and maintenance by CCPOA staff to keep the facility in top condition
✔ Free Wi-Fi for commuters waiting for their ride

Minibus Taxis: Safe, Regulated, and Efficient
Minibus taxis remain one of the most widely used transport options in South Africa. At Century City, only authorized minibus taxis – operated by associations contracted to CCPOA – are permitted to operate.
To ensure safety and compliance, we conduct quarterly inspections to check for:
Roadworthiness of the vehicles
Valid operating licenses
Driver’s licenses with Professional Driving Permits (PDPs)
Active insurance and life cover
These minibus taxis provide connections between Century City and various destinations, including Mitchells Plain, Gugulethu, Nyanga, Delft, Khayelitsha, Cape Town, Wynberg, and beyond. For those working late, an after-hours minibus taxi service is available at an affordable rate.
Golden Arrow Bus Service: Reliable Connections Across the City
Golden Arrow operates direct bus routes between Century City and key areas such as the CBD, Khayelitsha, Nyanga, Killarney, Elsies River, Hanover Park, and Atlantis. The service runs throughout the day, with extended routes available after hours to accommodate commuters working late.
MyCiTi Bus: Smart, Sustainable, and Convenient
Century City’s MyCiTi Bus station opened in 2015, replacing the old internal shuttle system. This rapid transit service follows a similar route to the former shuttle, with stops strategically placed within walking distance of all e-Parking sites.
Initially, the first 251 feeder route connected Century City to the Century City Railway Station and Montague Gardens, linking to the main trunk route at Racecourse and Omuramba roads. Since then, the MyCiTi network has expanded to include direct routes to Atlantis, Table View, Du Noon, and surrounding areas.
Safety & Access Control: A Top Priority
Century City’s PTI is one of the safest public transport interchanges in South Africa, thanks to:
Boom gate access control, managed by an advanced automated system
24-hour CCTV surveillance, monitored from the Service Operations Center (SOC)
On-site security personnel, ensuring the safety of all commuters and staff

Innovation in Public Transport: The Rise of Electric Minibus Taxis
As transport fares continue to rise, and fuel prices remain volatile, the need for affordable and sustainable alternatives is greater than ever. In 2023, a groundbreaking initiative was launched to test and introduce electric minibus taxis in South Africa.
Led by GoMetro, in partnership with Powerfleet, HSW, ACDC Dynamics, and Stellenbosch University’s Faculty of Engineering, this project aims to revolutionize the local transport industry by reducing fuel consumption and lowering carbon emissions.
Some key facts about this initiative:
Minibus taxis in South Africa transport millions of passengers daily.
The industry contributes 30 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually
Traditional taxis consume 2 billion liters of fuel each year
To support this shift, flx EV is developing a network of electric charging hubs across South Africa, with the first hubs set to open in Century City and Stellenbosch within the next 12 months.
Through the upcoming flx EV app, taxi owners will be able to:
Monitor their vehicle’s battery status
Locate the nearest charging hub
Prepay for charging services
Looking Ahead: A Smarter, Greener Transport Future
“Public transport is more than just a means of getting from point A to point B – it’s a lifeline for millions and a key driver of economic and social development.” continues Richard. “At Century City, we are committed to enhancing our transport systems, embracing new technologies, and creating a more sustainable future for all commuters.”
“As we continue to innovate, Century City remains a leader in modern, efficient, and safe urban mobility. Whether it’s through enhanced public transport facilities, improved commuter experiences, or pioneering electric taxi solutions, we are dedicated to keeping our city connected and moving forward. The future of transport is here, and Century City is leading the way!”
