We’re proud to share that Century City has just been recognised for delivering exceptional mobile internet speed.

According to the latest research by MyBroadband Insights (based on 320,698 tests via its Speed Test apps during Q3 2025), Century City recorded an average mobile download speed of 144 Mbps, placing it third in the country. Meanwhile, upload speeds in Century City averaged 32 Mbps, just ahead of the second-place suburb, with a latency performance that further underlines our digital advantage.

“This is a meaningful milestone for our precinct, and absolutely in line with our Smart Connectivity & Connection goals. What it tells us is that living, working or playing in Century City means being part of a community with connectivity that rivals the best in the country. In a time when remote work, streaming, mobile interaction and smart infrastructure all depend on solid data networks, ranking third nationally is a tangible mark of quality.” says Gordon Ralph, COO of Century City Property Owners’ Association (CCPOA).

Why this matters for Century City

Good internet speed isn’t just a convenience, it’s part of our everyday experience here: from working remotely at home or in one of our business towers, to browsing cafés, to enjoying smart-city services and public-space Wi-Fi. That Century City has delivered such strong mobile speeds complements the high-end fibre network infrastructure that has been in place for years.

Ranking ahead of many other precincts means businesses have one less barrier, residents have one less frustration, and visitors can simply expect the kind of responsiveness and connectivity that suits modern living. It reinforces our identity as a smart, connected precinct.

Century City smart connectivity

A quick look at how we got here

The strong connectivity foundations in Century City go beyond mobile signals.

Fibre and wi-fi is a given in most homes today, but when Century City Connect started to deploy its network in 2011, it was believed to be a first for the African continent.  Century City Connect deployed an open access fibre network, which currently offers those living and working in Century City some of the country’s fastest broadband data, voice and multi-media services.

As an open access Fibre-to-the-Premises network that is “carrier neutral”, it means that businesses and residents situated in Century City are not tied in or forced to use any specific voice or Internet Service Provider (ISP).  Clients have a choice of several pre-selected blue-chip ISPs to choose from that can host their services in a purposely built Century City Connect Optical Exchange Node (OEN).

By building an open access network and offering a centrally hosted distribution exchange for ISPs to host their services in, Century City Connect ensures that only the best and fastest voice and broadband services are offered to people living and working in Century City.

In 2022 the company rebranded to Thinkspeed, reflecting its growth beyond the precinct and its ambition to provide “supersonic fibre” and open-access services across South Africa.

Century City Smart connectivity

What this means looking forward

With Century City now firmly positioned among the top-performing neighbourhoods in the country for mobile data, our community can lean into this advantage. For residents, it means smoother streaming, faster uploads and fewer frustrations. For businesses, it means reliable connectivity that supports productivity. For visitors and users of public spaces, it means a digital experience that matches the quality of the physical environment.

“We remain committed to continuously improving the precinct’s infrastructure, masking the connectivity layer so you don’t have to think about it. It just works.” continues Gordon. “Ranking third nationally is fantastic recognition, but for us it’s just part of maintaining the standard that Century City offers in every aspect.”
