Century City Public Transport and Pedestrian Survey

< Back to News
Date 24 November 2020

We conducted our annual survey on 16 and 17 September, which includes public transport passenger numbers and the foot traffic on key pedestrian routes.

Due to the continuation of the National State of Disaster, at the time in Level 2, an understandable overall decrease in public transport users and pedestrians could be seen.  Not only was PRASA Rail not operating during the time of our survey, but there was also a 64% decrease in MyCiTi users versus the year before.

GABS passenger numbers decreased by 50% and we saw a 19% decrease in Minibus Taxi passenger numbers.  Public Transport into Century City decreased by 33% and pedestrians entering Century City decreased by 28% with a 48% decrease in pedestrians entering and leaving Canal Walk.

The decrease in overall traffic indicated that many businesses were largely working from home.

The numbers have increased over the past two months and we are looking forward to seeing an increase of visitors over the festive season. We are ready to welcome you to Century City!
