Successful Controlled Burn at Intaka Island

On Tuesday, 23 March, a controlled burn was successfully conducted by the NCC Environmental Services and the Century City Property Owners’ Association crews under the watchful eye of the City’s Fire & Rescue Services.

A beautiful sundial was gifted to Century City’s Intaka Island by the Rotary Club of Century City Cape Town, cementing a common vision of supporting and promoting education.

The Embassy of Ireland in South Africa collaborated with the Long March to Freedom to bring the St Patrick’s Day Global Greening initiative to Cape Town on 17 March.

New Water Themed art for Century City Arts Trail

With hundreds of strands of glimmering steelwork, the giant shape of two otters basks in the sunshine. Standing proudly in the middle of the Grand Canal between Canal Walk Shopping Centre and Manhattan Suites, Callum Pickard’s Aonyx (or Pair of Otters) is the latest addition to the Century City Art Trail’s permanent collection.

Century City Arts Trail presents the Anton Smit Open Air Exhibition

Seen something different around Century City lately? A life-sized statue of a man, his arms open and his face turned toward the sky, his silhouette etches against the shape of Table Mountain in the distance. The figures of three women, balancing on the tips of their toes, circling inward. An enormous female face, its edges seemingly blowing in the wind.

Three injured in Canal Walk blaze

A dramatic scene unfolded in the blink of an eye at Century City’s Canal Walk on 10 March 2021 when three people were injured in a blaze. The series of unfortunate events started when a contractor manually filled one of Canal Walk’s diesel generators and spilled diesel along the side of the generator, resulting in a runoff on the ground.

Maggie Rowley’s legacy honoured with fund for Sinenjongo students

“In remembrance of Maggie and the tremendous impact she made during her lifetime, as well as continuing the legacy of the burning passion she had for uplifting the youngsters of Sinenjongo High School, Rabie has launched the Maggie Rowley Sinenjongo Assistance Fund”, says John Chapman, Director at Rabie.

Excellent results for Sinenjongo High School’s 2020 matrics

The 2020 Sinenjongo High School matrics were subjected to pressures from all sides, but nonetheless improved on the 2019 results by 10%, by achieving an 88% pass rate.  Outperforming the national and provincial averages under these conditions is no small feat and testament to the dedication of the learners, teachers, and principal, Mrs Nopote.

Intaka Ecological burn

The Century City Property Owners’ Association, in conjunction with the Cape Peninsula Fire Protection Association, Working on Fire and the City’s Fire & Rescue Services, intend to conduct a prescribed ecological burn at the 16 hectares Intaka Island Nature Reserve on a weather dependent day in March or April this year.

In addition to leaving their estates to loved ones, many people also want to leave a legacy by benefitting a favourite charity or non-profit organisation, such as the Intaka Island Environmental Trust. A charitable bequest – which is simply a distribution from your deceased estate to a charitable organisation by a bequest in your will – is an easy and effective way to do this.
