For Mario Jacobs, new Infrastructure Maintenance Manager at CCPOA, every project is an opportunity to push boundaries, refine processes, and strengthen teamwork. With a career spanning major commercial hubs, international sporting events, and complex maintenance projects, his journey has been one of growth, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
From the stands of Newlands Cricket Ground to the meticulous planning behind international events, Mario has built a career around high-performance operations.
“I’ve had the privilege of managing diverse portfolios, from commercial spaces to mixed-use developments,” he shares. “Each project has taught me the importance of efficiency, adaptability, and teamwork.”
During his time as Operations and Facilities Manager at Newlands Cricket Ground, Mario was responsible for overseeing not only the stadium itself but also the surrounding business precinct. His expertise in infrastructure maintenance and operational efficiency made him an integral part of the Women’s World Cup T20 local organising committee, where he played a key role in ensuring seamless operations for this world-class event.
“Success is best when it’s shared,” he adds, quoting Howard Schultz. “No major event or project is achieved alone – it takes a dedicated team, working together with a common goal.”
When he’s not immersed in the fast-paced world of infrastructure management, Mario enjoys spending quality time with his family and coaching sports teams. “There’s something special about mentoring and seeing young athletes grow, both in skill and confidence. It reminds me that leadership is about guiding and supporting others, whether on the field or in the workplace.”
Mario sees Century City as a precinct with limitless potential. While already a benchmark for smart urban planning, he believes there’s always room to raise the bar even higher.
“Century City has the opportunity to showcase that a smaller precinct can operate at the highest standards of efficiency and innovation,” he explains. “With the right blend of collaboration, forward-thinking solutions, and a commitment to excellence, we can set an example for the city and beyond.”
His leadership is grounded in the belief that a strong team is the foundation of any successful operation. “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team,” he quotes from Phil Jackson, emphasising the importance of collective effort.
Mario’s expertise extends beyond daily operations – he is experienced in maintenance refurbishments, business management, budgeting, contractor coordination, and compliance with safety regulations. His ability to oversee both hard and soft services ensures that Century City functions smoothly, from infrastructure upkeep to large-scale projects.
As he continues to drive innovation within Century City’s infrastructure team, Mario remains committed to the principles that have shaped his career: strategic thinking, efficiency, and above all, teamwork.
“It’s about creating a space where people can thrive, whether they’re living, working, or visiting. And that’s what makes the work so fulfilling.”
