Century City kicked off the festive season on a high note with Carols in the Park, held at Ratanga Park this past Sunday, 1 December.
A guest appearance by none other than Santa himself, live music by Planetshakers, free Century City Tramway rides, food stalls offering scrumptious meals, and a kiddies play area ensured a family friendly celebration for all. Carolers came from near and far with their picnic blankets, watching a spectacular Cape Town sunset as spirits united in festive cheer.
The Century City Carols originated in 2008. Called Carols by Candlelight and held in Central Park, this annual family affair became very popular with not only locals, but people far and wide streamed to Century City to attend. After a two-year hiatus in 2020 and 2021, it was renamed to Carols in the Park and moved to Ratanga Park in 2022.
“We’re delighted by the number of attendees at our Carols in the Park once again,” said Chris Blackshaw, CEO of Century City Property Owners’ Association. “This outdoor event on the banks of Ratanga Park, surrounded by friends, family and a wonderful spirit of goodwill is just magic!”
The spirit of giving was extended by asking attendees to donate non-perishable items to Ladles of Love, spreading kindness and love to those in need this holiday season.
Ladles of Love provide nutritious and wholesome food to vulnerable people, most of whom are small children. They also support urban farmers growing natural wholesome food in an economical and sustainable way and empower food entrepreneurs to grow businesses that create jobs and add to the economy of our country.
“We would like to thank everyone for attending another Carols in the Park and for giving so generously to Ladles of Love,” continues Blackshaw. “For those that are travelling out of Cape Town, we wish you safe travels, and for those who choose to stay and enjoy an amazing local summer, please come visit Century City – we have loads on offer this festive season!”
