R8m electrical upgrade for Century City
The City of Cape Town Electricity Department is undertaking a substantial electricity infrastructure upgrade in Century City to meet the fast growing demand for electricity from new developments in the precinct
The Department is laying a total of 6000m of 11kV (kiloVolts) of electrical cable over a stretch of about 2kms at a cost of around R8million.
The route of the cable is predominantly along Century Boulevard, where, at some points, six cables are running in parallel under the sidewalks.
The project, which started in April this year, is due from completion at the end of November.
The City’s contractor, CBI Electrical, is currently working in the Grand Central precinct.
The upgrade will provide an electrical Infrastructure backbone that will be able to supply the growing demands in Century City well into the future.
