New Century City MyCiTi station now open!
Councillor Brett Herron, Chris Blackshaw (CEO of Century City Property
Owners Association), Mayor Patricia De Lille, Melissa Whitehead (Commissioner: TCT),
John Chapman (Rabie Property Group) and Leon Cohen (Rabie Property Group)
officially open the new MyCiTi station, the result of a successful public-private partnership.
The Century City station forms part of the new T04 route which will also provide Dunoon residents and those from surrounding areas with a direct service to and from Century City.
The station boasts a unique design due to space constraints and the need to accommodate both high-floor and low-floor buses – setting it apart from other MyCiTi stations.
The cost of the R30-million construction of this station was entirely funded by the Rabie Property Group. Executive Mayor, Patricia De Lille, said that this was a prime example of how well private and public partnerships could work.
“In this case, their contribution towards bulk infrastructure was offset against the design and building of the MyCiTi Century City station. This represents the most significant private-sector contribution towards public transport improvements made in the City of Cape Town to date.”
She thanked the Rabie Property Group for working with the City to deliver a quality infrastructure project to residents. The station has been handed over to the City to manage, maintain and operate.
