First Century City Futbol League for 2014 kicks off
The first Century City five-a-side football league for 2014 kicks off at the newly extended Fives Futbol arena in the precinct on February 3.
Four new courts were recently added to the Fives Futbol campus at Century City which now boasts a total of six.
This will allow up to 120 corporate and social teams to participate in the 10 week leagues.
CEO Adam Fine said the first two courts were financed by the Rabie Property Group, developers of Century City, with the expansion being funded by international philanthropist Dr Haruhisa Handa. “What makes this operation so unique is that two thirds of the profits go to finance the chosen charities of the funders – namely Sinenjongo High School in Joe Slovo Park and ISPS respectively
“Our in December since the expansion exceeded all expectations and trading for our first full financial year is ahead of projections.”
The cost of entry per team in the league is R3550 for the 10 week season while social games at the arena cost R500 per team for an hour.
Fine said the expanded arena was able to accommodate up to six league games a night Mondays to Thursdays with the other evenings earmarked for social games.
“We also host the Ajax Soccer School in the afternoons and act as a platform for charities and corporate CSI programmes in the mornings and off-peak periods”.
Fine said they aimed to run four or five corporate and social league seasons per year.
