Century City Winter Preparedness Plan
Staff of Century City Property Owners’ Association have been hard at work clearing the storm water system ahead of the expected heavy winter rainfall.
According to CCPOA Facilities and Infrastructure Manager, Gordon Ralph, this was done to help prevent blockages and consequent flooding and to ensure that pollutants do not enter the canal system during the first heavy winter rainfall.
He said as part of the CCPOA’s winter preparedness plan, more than 250 Century City and City of Cape Town storm water inlets, catchpits, drains and channels had been checked and cleaned of litter, sand and plant debris.
“Due to the hot, dry conditions since last winter we have had to remove a lot more debris and sand than usual.
“We have also paid particular attention to those areas where construction has been underway as this also contributes significantly to the dust and debris that has to be removed.”
Ralph says the entire system will be re-checked after winter.
