Century City set for bumper festive season
Century City preparations for a bumper festive season are underway.
Chris Blackshaw CEO of the Century City Property Owners' Association with members of Century City Security, SAPS, City Law Enforcement and emergency personnel.
Chris Blackshaw, CEO of the Century City Property Owners’ Association, says that as in previous years, the Operational Management Forum, which co-ordinates and facilitates law enforcement, security, traffic and disaster management issues within the precinct was working closely with Canal Walk, Ratanga Junction, City Traffic and the South African Police Services to prepare for the 2013 festive season.
Traffic management measures to be implemented include the adjustment of timing settings of key traffic signals at the Sable Road bridge and the N1 entrance to Century City to cater for the seasonal increase in the number of vehicles and different traffic patterns and this would be closely monitored over the season.
“We have met with the Goodwood Traffic Management Centre (GMC) and they have advised that a review and upgrade of the signal plans for all signalized intersections around Century City is scheduled to be completed by the end of November. Their goal is to have all the signalized intersections on the scoot system with the majority happening before the Festive Season. This should result in signal timings changing automatically according to real time traffic patterns and remove the need for the Control Centre to contact the TMC and request timing changes. They have, however, provided contact details of relevant personnel should there be an issue and manual adjustment of signal timing is required.”
Blackshaw said the City Traffic Officer based at Century City would again be assisting with traffic management in and around the precinct and would be deployed to Century City Boulevard to work late shifts in the weeks leading up to Christmas as traffic was most congested in late afternoons. City Traffic had also been requested to step up patrols within and around Century City.
Security is also being beefed up for the festive season and all Century City security service providers, including the two contracted Metropolitan Law Enforcement Officers, will be on heightened alert. Six additional CCTV cameras will be installed on new sites prior to the Festive Season and these would increase CCTV surveillance coverage for both security and traffic monitoring purposes.
Canal Walk extended trading hours
Canal Walk is offering extended shopping hours over the season. From Friday 6 December until Monday 23 December, the centre will trade from 9am until 10pm and from 9am until 9pm on 24 December.
Per previous years, trading is optional on 25 December but selected stores will be open.
From December 26 Canal Walk’s normal trading hours of 9am to 9pm resume although stores will have the option of closing at 7pm on New Year’s Day.
Extra parking assistants would be assisting traffic flow at Canal Walk.
To accommodate Canal Walk’s longer trading hours, application has been made to the new MyCiTi services to operate until 23h00.
