We’re back: Environmental teams hard at work!

Although the Intaka Island Nature Reserve and Eco-Centre facilities have remained closed to visitors in terms of Alert Level 4 of the Disaster Management Act (DMA), our management team was working hard behind the scenes during level 5 to prepare for the easement of lockdown. This made it possible for the first of our teams to return to work on the 6th of May and the remainder of staff in a phased manner thereafter.

Dear Century City Community, All the National State of Disaster containment and mitigation measures including the general provisions to contain the spread of COVID-19 and the Alert Level 4 regulations are fully applicable and enforced throughout the Century City precinct.

Century City Feed-A-Family feeds 1 150 families in first two weeks

The Century-City-Feed-A-Family initiative, a joint venture of the Century City Property Owners’ Association (CCPOA), Rabie Property Group and Century City Conference Centre and Hotel, delivered the first food hampers to the Joe Slovo community in Milnerton on 30 April.

Bombarded with images on the news and social media, we want to make a difference, but are not sure how we can help, where to start and who to assist.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) Press Release

Following the President’s national address regarding COVID-19 and his declaration of a National State of Disaster, all Century City Property Owners’ Association (CCPOA) and Intaka Island public events, such as Markets, the Galileo Open Air Cinema, Full Moon hikes, etc. have, understandably, been suspended until further notice. In addition, and in line with the key containment and mitigation measures taken, inter alia, by the City of Cape Town to reduce the spread of the virus, the Intaka Island Eco-Centre and Reserve will be closed to the public from Thursday 19 March 2020.

With 8 sporting codes over three days, the Century City Sports Festival was a great success. Held from Friday 28 February to Sunday 1 March, the total number of participants across the spectrum was in excess of 6 000.

New “green” Depot for Century City

On Friday, 21 February 2020, Century City Property Owners’ Association took handover of their newly completed 1 200 square metre Depot. This multi-use facility will be used as a maintenance workshop, tools and equipment storage, changing rooms and showers for maintenance and ground staff.

Bronze sculptors

The local artists behind the Long March to Freedom statues

As the sun sets behind Table Mountain, the silhouettes of the procession of 100 life-size statues, the Long March to Freedom, cast long shadows. Moving the exhibition to its new home in Century City, brought the bronzes closer to two local artists who were responsible for a number of these exquisite artworks.

Residents of retirement resort rescued from “blaze”

The ultimate nightmare scenario unfolded at Oasis Luxury Resort on Wednesday 27 November when curls of black smoke was seen billowing from the twelfth floor of the Palm Brook building. Concerned onlookers watched as elderly residents were assisted out of the building, visibly shaken.

The Century City Property Owners’ Association (CCPOA)-driven Operational Management Forum which co-ordinates and facilitates law enforcement, security, traffic and disaster management issues within Century City has been proactively preparing for this year’s Festive Season.

THE LONG MARCH TO FREEDOM IS COMING TO CENTURY CITY

The Long March to Freedom, a monumental procession of 100 life-size bronze statues and the largest exhibition of its kind anywhere in the world, opens to the public at Century City, Cape Town, on 15 November 2019. The individual bronze artworks depict South African and international icons, some famous and others unknown, and tell the story of South Africa’s 350-year struggle for freedom and democracy.
