The Century City Property Owners’ Association (CCPOA)-driven Operational Management Forum which co-ordinates and facilitates law enforcement, security, traffic and disaster management issues within Century City has been proactively preparing for this year’s festive season.
We conducted our annual survey on 16 and 17 September, which includes public transport passenger numbers and the foot traffic on key pedestrian routes.

Canal WalkThe award for "Environmental Education and Skills Development facilitated by the Intaka Island Environmental Trust for the wetlands at Century City, Cape Town" was announced in a virtual awards ceremony on 28 October.
Intaka IslandWhat started out as a typical, quiet Friday in Century City, turned into a major accident scene. On 23 October, Sipho Dlamini, was driving the aquatic weed harvester used to trim the water plants in the canals. “It was just like any other day, a morning on the water performing maintenance on the canals when it took a sudden turn for the worst. I was working on the Grand Canal behind Canal Walk Shopping Centre when the Intaka Island ferry started veering towards me. Before I could react, two canoeists came out of nowhere, and we all met with a big bang!”
In August 2020, the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) awarded Canal Walk, co-owned by Hyprop Investments Limited and Ellerine Bros, a 5-Star Green Star EBP v1 Rating. Canal Walk is the first Super Regional shopping centre in South Africa to be awarded a 5-star rating by the Green Building Council, attesting to the fact that the operations and management of Canal Walk are efficient and maintain optimal performance.

With the nation under strict lockdown and unemployment skyrocketing, Century City Property Owners’ Association (CCPOA), Rabie Property Group and Century City Conference Centre and Hotel launched the Century City Feed-A-Family initiative.
Although the Intaka Island Nature Reserve and Eco-Centre facilities have remained closed to visitors in terms of Alert Level 4 of the Disaster Management Act (DMA), our management team was working hard behind the scenes during level 5 to prepare for the easement of lockdown. This made it possible for the first of our teams to return to work on the 6th of May and the remainder of staff in a phased manner thereafter.
