Century City Arts
The Century City Arts Foundation, which has Public Benefit Organisation Status, was formed two years ago aimed at making Century City a destination for art.
It aims to preserve, foster and communicate the arts in Century City by providing facilities, opportunities, a platform and a forum for both established and aspirant artists across all art genres.
It interprets “art” in its widest definition, including diverse expressions of culture such as design, fashion, food, sculpture, installations, sound, performance, dance, craft, film, photography, painting, graffiti etc
We run a range of projects and events under the auspices of the Century City Arts, these currently include:
1 - Painting of the Century City Station Walkway
The Century City Station Walkway, which comprises two pedestrian tunnels - one of which is 11m long by 4m wide and 4m high and the other 10m long, 3m high and 4m wide, is being transformed into a visual masterpiece by South African artist, Petru Lotter.
Once completed, these murals with depict scenes of Century City with a strong emphasis on Intaka Island wetlands reserve, its bird life and its flora, and will also embrace the human element and other iconic landmarks that make up our City within a City.
The art will welcome pedestrians travelling from the station to Century City and back home again and provide not only a visual attraction but also play an educative role about what constitutes our City.
The murals are expected to be completed around October 2016. They really are worth viewing and you might be lucky and get to meet the effervescent Petru in person!
2. Re-energising of the Century City Art Trail
As part of its initiative to enrich the urban environment of Century City for both visitors and residents, the Century City Arts Foundation has embarked upon a multi-faceted programme of outdoor educational exhibits, art works and installations. As part of the educational aspect and encouraging the public to explore this trail, a programme to re-energise and rebrand the many pedestrian level information signs accompanying and explaining each exhibit has commenced. This will include the rollout of a map of all exhibits, flyers, an online presence and in the future, walking tours!
