Century City triples in size in 8 years
The built form at Century City has more than tripled in the past eight years and now stands at over 850 000 square metres with total investment to date totalling about R17billion.
Chris Blackshaw, CEO of the Century City Property Owners’ Association (CCPOA), the non-profit company responsible for the day to day running of the 250 hectare precinct, said that in 2004 when the Rabie Property Group acquired the remaining undeveloped land and associated rights, the built form on site had been just over 280 000 square metres.

Thousands participate in Century City Sports Festival
The 2012 Century City Sports Festival attracted a record number of participants over the weekend with the signature event of the three day festival - the 10km Century City Express road race – boasting a field of close to 2000 runners.
The 10km Century City Express was won by Lindikhaya Mtangayi of Mr Price Western Cape in a time of thirty minutes and 11 seconds. He was followed closely by Nkosinathi Madyo (Nedbank) in a time of 30:14 with Mthandazo Qhina (Nedbank) in third place with a time of 30:21.

New School for Century City
Listed private school company, Curro Holdings is to developed a new school at Century City during 2012, scheduled to open in January 2013.
Dr Chris van der Merwe, Curro CEO, said the Group currently operates 16 schools around the country, including Western Cape campuses in Durbanville, Langebaan and Hermanus. Country wide Curro currently enrols more than 8500 learners and plans to have 20 campuses by 2013.

The correct facts
City Magazine would like to retract some information that it published in its ‘Take the time’ article on page 21 of its December issue. In it, City said that ‘For the duration of the school holidays two children under the 18 receive free tickets when accompanied by a full-paying adult’. Unfortunately the information, which was taken from a Cape Town leisure website, was incorrect and the deal referred to had run from 1 May 2011 and had expired on 30 October 2011. City apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Liesl pulls a 10 ton truck - for fun
On November 19, a 40-year-old mother Liesl Schoonraad, became the first woman in South Africa to pull a 10 ton truck which she did in the Ratanga parking lot at Century City.
Liesl did this to raise awareness about Cerebral Palsy and to promote Strength Training in South Africa. She hopes to inspire the youth to get off Tik and onto their natural Endorphins and to find enough strength athletes to start Strong Woman Competitions in South Africa. Well done Liesl!

Vladimir is first Masters home!
Three times Comrades Marathon winner and former Olympian, Vladimir Kotov, who runs in Century City colours, was the first Masters runner home in this year's uphill race from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.
Placed 54 overall in a field of just under 20 000 runners, 53-year-old Kotov ran the grueling 86,96km race in 6 hour 24 minutes 24 seconds scooping a silver medal, his 12th medal in as many years.
A disappointed Kotov had hoped to take his eighth gold medal for the Comrades this year but was thwarted by a tummy bug and leg cramps.

One of Century City's greatest attractions to those living and working here is that it is a safe and secure precinct.
While at this stage we unfortunately can't claim to be a 100% crime-free zone, we do pride ourselves on our comparatively low crime statistics which is in no small part a result of the zero tolerance approach to crime that has been adopted since Century City's inception.
In addition, the success rate in apprehending those that commit crimes in Century City is well above the norm.

New development totalling R11billion is in the pipeline for Century City where total investment to date has topped R16billion. A new state-of-the-art pedestrian bridge linking the mega Crystal Towers development to Canal Walk shopping centre at Century City has been completed.
Built at a cost of more than R11million, this is the fifth bridge to be built at Century City spanning the Grand Canal and providing pedestrian links between the north and south banks.

Century City Service Improvement Survey
Our recently completed third biennial service improvement survey has shown a pleasing improvement in the overall satisfaction of owners and stakeholders with regard to the running of Century City with no less than 89% of respondents rating their experience as excellent or good.
This compares favorably with 80%in the 2008 survey and 72% in 2006.
This year 8% rated their experience as fair, 2% said they did not know and only 1% rated it as poor.

Century City recycling programme is underway
Century City, which already boasts a number of green initiatives including the use of recycled water to irrigate all common areas as well as commercial and residential developments, is in the process of rolling out an integrated waste management system.
Key components include the promotion of waste minimization and the introduction of a recycling collection programme.
A pilot project, which was launched in May at Central Park, is proving very successful.

Century City took Arbor Day commemorations to the neighbouring community this week planting seven indigenous trees at Sinenjongo High School in Marconi Beam.
Alan Liebenberg, environmental manager of the Century City Property Owners' Association, the Section 21 company responsible for running Century City, and his team assisted learners at the school plant the trees.
The two-year-old trees were grown at Century City's indigenous nursery on Intaka Island, its award-winning nature conservation wetlands.

It's official, the residential property has finally turned with sales at Century City up a staggering 150% for the year to end June.
Allen Usher, managing director of Property World, the official on-site agency for developers, Rabie Property Group, said they had secured a total of 104 sales at Century City totaling R206million for the past financial year against 46 sales totaling R83million the previous year.
